CROSSING THE CHANNEL...
Of course there are many cross channel routes, we personally always go for
Eurotunnel as it’s quick and not too badly priced, especially if you book in advance and go at
less popular times. We have tried the Seacat from Portsmouth to Cherbourg but
to be honest it’s horrid, really bumpy and although it takes under 3 hours you have to sit in
your seat and frankly it’s boring, also the sound of at least 30% of the passengers throwing up is not
nice. It also doesn’t run if the weather’s bad. Overnight sea crossings are good but by the time you’ve added a cabin the cost mounts up - personally I’d rather spend the cash on an extra hotel stop.
BRITTANY - ROUND TRIP
We did this for a short break a few years ago.
Arrived by Seacat to Cherbourg at about 7pm.
Night 1 - L’ Hostellerie du Chateau - Bricquebec
Day 2 - Mont St Michel, Concale Bay
Night 2 - Ar Milin - Chateaubourg
Day 3 - Rochefort-en-Terre, Carnac and menhirs/dolmans
Night 3 - Les Moulins du Duc - Moëlan-sur-Mer
Day 4 - Brest, Oceanopolis
Night 4 - Le Brittany - Roscoff (not included in this website as we thought it was
rather pompous and the most of the residents seemed to be half dead! plus they
served artichoke with every course)
Day 5 - Rockpooling, oyster beds
Night 5 - Chateau Bois Guy - Perang
Fougeres, normandy beaches and evening crossing Seacat from Caen.
WEST COAST
In 2005 we had a week with friends down the West coast as far as Cognac.

Day 3 - Rock pooling, drive down coast
Night 4 - L’Ocean - Ile de Ré
Day 5 - Light house on Ile de Ré, La Rochelle Aqaurium
Night 5 - Au Marais - Coulon
Day 6 - Wander through Marais, punt trip and picnic. Trip round Hennessey
Night 6 - Les Pigeons Blancs - Cognac
Day 7 - Trip round Remy Martan
Night 7 - Hostellerie Le Clos du Cher - Noyers-sur-Cher (0033 2 54 75 00 03) This is not
in our guide, there wasn’y really anything wrong, but it wasn’t special although the location was good for us
Day 8 - Zoo Parc de Beauvais
Night 8 - Hotel d’Evreux Vernon
Day 9 -Calais, shopping and tunnel home.
