We rented this beautiful cottage in Padstow for a week with friends. Only 2 minutes from the bustling harbour of Padstow it was quiet, had parking and was really well equipt and decorated. It was great to have the restaurant, pubs and shops just a few minutes away.  Harbour Holidays are a small company who rent properties in the Padstow area, they were very friendly and helpful and the charges were quite reasonable (we paid £750 a week for 4, high season).

They call it Padstein these day because Rick Stein has 3 restaurants, fish and chip shop, deli, patisserie, giftshop and cookery school, but it is all quality. We had lunch in the flagship Seafood Restaurant, expensive but worth every penny, a fabulous afternoon tea in St Petroc’s Hotel, brilliant fish and chips and breakfast and supper in the Middle Street Cafe. You do need to book well in advance , we booked 4 months before and still couldn’t get an evening table in the restaurant.

We didn’t think there were restaurants like this in the UK. Incredible food, beautiful place, wonderful atmosphere, friendly staff, can’t praise it enough. Just around the corner from Hidden Cottage, this restaurant was opened by a team from top London restaurants in 2005 becoming Which’s Best Restaurant in Cornwall 2007. Just waiting for an opportunity to go back to try their tasting menu with wine, unfortunately we went at the last minute and had already had chips in St Ives so could only manage a couple of courses.
RIPLEY’S - PADSTOW, ST MERRYN

This lovely little cottage restaurant is in St Merryn about two miles out of Padstow and worth the trip. Run by Paul Ripley who was Rick Steins head chef it has a Michelin star and the food is local, fresh, simple and superb. The quality of the ingredients stands out and the price is very reasonable for the quality.
LOBSTER HATCHERY
A brilliant idea, fisherman take female lobsters with eggs here, the eggs are laid and the lobster returned to the fisherman. The eggs are then raised for 3 months until the danger period has passed, then the small lobsters are released by divers all around Cornwall and help to sustain the Lobster population  and industry.
